Democracy and Governance

Pakistan’s democratic system faces significant challenges, including a lack of internal democracy within political parties and the undue influence of the military in governance. The understanding of democracy in Pakistan is still underdeveloped, with elected institutions often failing to address critical issues such as education and poverty.

IHRO advocates for a democratic society where human rights, freedom of expression, and individual liberties are protected. Strengthening democratic institutions and ensuring that parliamentarians recognize their responsibilities toward addressing social issues are vital for the country’s progress.

IHRO also stresses the need for educational reforms and poverty alleviation as fundamental steps toward building a more equitable society. By promoting respect for human rights, individual freedom, and civic education, IHRO aims to strengthen democratic institutions in Pakistan and ensure that all citizens can exercise basic human rights.
