Extremist Man kills sister for not waking up during morning prayers
The International Human Rights Observer (IHRO) strongly condemns the tragic incident in which a young woman was brutally killed by her brother in Pakistan for not waking up during Fajr prayers. This heinous act, purportedly carried out in the name of honor, underscores the pervasive violence against women in the name of religious or cultural norms.
IHRO expresses deep concern over the alarming rise of such incidents, which reflect deep-rooted issues of gender-based violence and societal pressures. No act of violence can be justified on the grounds of religion or honor. Every individual has the right to life, dignity, and freedom of choice, and it is the responsibility of the state and society to protect these fundamental rights.
We urge the authorities to take swift and decisive action against the perpetrator to ensure justice for the victim and her family. It is imperative that the legal system sends a clear message that such barbaric acts will not be tolerated and that those who commit them will be held accountable.
IHRO calls on civil society, religious leaders, and the government to work together to eradicate the toxic notion of honor that often leads to violence against women. We stand in solidarity with the victim’s family and all those who continue to suffer from such oppressive practices.
