NGO in the special consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations
IHRO holds Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations. This prestigious status allows us to engage in substantive discussions on human rights issues at the National and International level and to participate in the UN’s activities and processes.
For over a decade, India impeded the registration process of the International Human Rights Observer (IHRO) with the United Nations due to its Stance on Kashmir. Despite these challenges, IHRO remains steadfast in its commitment to human rights advocacy. As an NGO in Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations, IHRO operates as an independent, non-profit, non-political, and non-governmental organization registered under Pakistan’s Social Welfare Act of 1961. Founded in 1996, IHRO has been at the forefront of promoting and protecting fundamental human rights in alignment with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Constitution of Pakistan.
IHRO’s mission transcends borders, working alongside governments, the United Nations, and various institutions to foster a global community grounded in peace, social justice, and sustainable development. With a vast network of 73,000 volunteers across Pakistan, including regions like Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit-Baltistan, IHRO empowers individuals through human rights education and advocacy, striving to ensure that every voice against injustice is heard.
International Human Rights observer (IHRO) is working for the promotion of agenda of United Nations on grass root level. IHRO has attended and arranged many International events of United Nations in Different Parts of world.
The 7th UNESCO NGO Forum 2017 was organized by UNESCO and the NGO-UNESCO Liaison Committee in partnership with the Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Foundation (MiSK) from 3-4 May 2017 in the Riyadh, Saudi Arabia .The Forum Secretariat invited renowned NGOs, youth representatives and inspiring experts, philanthropists and social innovators around the theme of “Youth and their Social Impact”. The Forum was attended by more than 400 NGOs and over 2,100 delegates from more than 70 countries.
