The united nations in pakistan

The United Nations in Pakistan is dedicated to assisting the Government of Pakistan in addressing development needs and fulfilling its global commitments to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Additionally, the UN plays a crucial role in providing support during humanitarian crises.

In 2006, Pakistan volunteered to be a pilot country for the Delivering as One initiative, aimed at enhancing the coordination and efficiency of UN efforts. Since then, UN partners have worked closely to align their actions with national priorities and to increase their effectiveness at the country, regional, and global levels.

The first One UN Programme (OP I), covering the period from 2009 to 2012, was launched in February 2009 in the presence of the UN Secretary-General and Pakistan’s Prime Minister. This was followed by the second One UN Programme (OP II, 2013-2017), which was aligned with Pakistan’s political processes and national development priorities at both the national and sub-national levels. The third One UN Programme (OP III, 2018-2022), signed in April 2018, reflects the UN Secretary-General’s Reform Agenda and incorporates best practices.

In alignment with UN principles, the organization’s efforts in Pakistan are grounded in a human rights-based approach, with a strong emphasis on gender equality, inclusion, capacity development, and environmental sustainability across all interventions.
