Freedom of expression is a core human right that IHRO is dedicated to protecting. Article XIX of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights states that everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression, which includes the freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive, and impart information and ideas. IHRO works to uphold this right in Pakistan and beyond, advocating for the removal of barriers to free speech and the protection of journalists, activists, and ordinary citizens who exercise this right.
IHRO’s work includes monitoring and reporting on violations of freedom of expression, providing legal and financial support to those whose rights are threatened, and engaging in advocacy to strengthen legal protections for free speech. The organization recognizes that freedom of expression is essential for the functioning of a democratic society, as it enables individuals to participate fully in public life and hold those in power
