International Human Rights Observer Official Statement on Escalating Iran-Israel Conflict

International Human Rights Observer (IHRO) expresses grave concern over the rapidly intensifying conflict between Israel and Iran, marked by devastating airstrikes, retaliatory missile launches, and rising civilian casualties.

The ongoing hostilities — including recent Israeli strikes on Iranian nuclear and military sites, followed by Iranian missile retaliation — represent a dangerous escalation that risks plunging the entire Middle East into deeper turmoil.

IHRO stands in solidarity with the United Nations and reiterates the call of UN Under-Secretary-General Rosemary DiCarlo:

“All parties must exercise maximum restraint and avoid at all costs a descent into deeper and wider regional conflict.”

The attacks on nuclear sites pose catastrophic risks to global peace, safety, and environmental security. We strongly echo the statement by IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, who emphasized:

“Nuclear sites must never be targeted. Dialogue and diplomacy is the only sustainable path forward.”

IHRO reaffirms:

•   The primacy of international law and the UN Charter.
•   That all nations must prioritize diplomacy over destruction.
•  That civilians, protected infrastructure, and international agreements must be respected in all circumstances.

We also recognize the statements by member states like Pakistan, calling for accountability and highlighting the legal right to self-defenses under Article 51 of the UN Charter.

As human rights defenders, we urge the UN Security Council to act decisively and prevent further escalation. The use of force must never overshadow the potential for peace through diplomatic engagement and mutual dialogue.

Let us not allow war to replace wisdom. IHRO stands for peace, justice, and human dignity.
