The right to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly is under threat in Pakistan, with authorities often using force to disperse protests and silence dissenting voices. The Assembly Bill 2018 imposes restrictive measures on public gatherings, effectively curtailing citizens’ ability to express their grievances and demand accountability. These actions are in direct violation of international human rights standards. Strengthening legal protections for these fundamental freedoms and ensuring that law enforcement respects the rights of protestors are vital for a healthy democracy.
